Lotus Birds is a small (closed except by invitation) aviary in the Southeast Tennessee mountain area.
I started with a pair of Zebra Finches over 18 years ago and my love for the Fids (feathered kids) has just grown. I absolutely love the Lady Gouldian Finch and that was where I went next.
We have many color
mutations in the Lady Gouldian Finch as well as many other types of Finches. We
keep and attempt to breed: Peters Twinspots, Societies, Strawberry Finches, Orange Cheek
Waxbills, Lavender Finch, White Hooded Nuns, Tri Color Nuns, Owl Finch (Bicheno), Yellow Star Finch, Blue Head Parrot Finch and Parsons Finch. We also breed
English and American Parakeets, Scarlet Chested Grasskeets (Normal and Cinnamon), Blue Headed and
White Capped Pionus, and 4 species of
Lovebirds. Most of the finches
are parent fed. I foster under Societies only when absolutely necessary (so far I have not had to do this but I hate to say that it will never happen).
The flock just keeps growing and now I have well over 200 birds.
I am a member of many of the National Bird clubs and band my birds accordingly, when possible. I try to close band all my fids but sometimes their breeding behavior prohibits this . I will happily tell any prospective adoptive parents all I know about their new babies just ask!.
I am always happy to talk to others interested in keeping and breeding birds for the love of it. If I can be of any help feel free to e-mail me and ask questions. If I can not answer your question I will attempt to direct you to someone whom can.
Thanks for visiting,
Susan Murphy, RN, BSN
