Feeding your new fids is very important to their growth and continued good health. Below is what I feed my Fids .Also below is a very short list of information about sick birds.
Scroll down and find your new babies.. Any questions feel free to e-mail me or call.
I use the Agselect Water Buddy bottles for all my fids and train new babies to these whenever possible. I like them having had few leak problems and the water remains fresh in the bottle for greater than a day without developing "Parrot Soup". You need to offer a separate bowl for bathing as often as you can (daily to every other day) but be around to remove it before it gets too soiled.
I feed all my Finches and some of the Keets the Scarlet's, and the Red Rumps mealworms. I get these from Southeastern Insectaries, INC. They have a toll free # 1(877)967-6777, call them they will be glad to help you.
For my handfeeding Formula I use Rival, I add Instant Ounces for the first few days of handfeeding also. I always keep Instant Ounces on hand for emergencies. Nutrition Plus is my vitamin of choice added to my eggfood and Calcium Care is the calcium supplement I use during breeding. These are all products I love and use from Phoenix Unlimited. Please use their according to their directions . Their phone # is 502-367-3980 give them a call their products are available in different sizes for different needs and are always fresh .
I also always have on hand either "Guardian Angel" or " Energize" they are similar products that are added to the water supply to aid the birds immune system. One of these 2 is always in the shipping fluids for the birds..
I also keep on hand "Save it" this is a Multiple antibiotic that is usable about any time , followed up by Probiotics after the course of the antibiotic is completed.. Birds go from great to gone with little or no warning.. If you see signs act! Signs are, "going Light", wing droop, fluffed, sitting in a corner when usually active.. A good heat source is also essential if they are feeling poorly!!
Feeding your Keets and Linnies
Always in the cage is fresh water, seed and egg food. I try to keep good Millet in the holder at most time. If all they seem to consume is the Millet remove it after a few hours so they will eat the other things they need. Millet is sweeter and a favorite of all the birds
The seed is a mixture of a good Parakeet Seed, Canary seed and extra Pellets. For the Linnies I add extra sunflower seeds they do not eat allot but they do like some. I use the Black oil type. I use Zupreem Fruit Flavored Pellets. I have been using the Higgins Nederlands Brand seeds but any good brand has the proper seeds the birds need.
They also get a variety of vegetables and fruits.
Apples, Oranges, Grapes, Broccoli, Romaine Lettuce ( not too much because it has a high water content for the vitamins it provides)) corn on the cob.
My egg food is a combination of
Hard Boiled Egg, Provita, Proteen 25 and Purina Layena (All these are good protein sources and mixed together gives the bird a good even source of protein which is vital for the growth of the bird) I also add a vitamin supplement when I am making my eggfood( see above).
The Scarlet's, and the Red Rumps really like the small mealworms.
